T<\/span>aking care of the environment is really important responsibility <\/span>nowadays.\u202f<\/span>400 million <\/span>tonnes<\/span> of rubbish are collected in the UK every year. And only 44% of that rubbish is recycled. That means the other 56% go <\/span>into rubbish dumps<\/span>, <\/span>stay lying somewhere, collecting dust or are moved to other countries.\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n

Rubbish impacts our health and environment: bacteria and insects thrive in the garbage. T<\/span>he <\/span>toxic substances form in the air causing various diseases. While w<\/span>aste<\/span> contaminates water and soil, <\/span>causing many fish and animals to die of unnatural causes.\u202f<\/span>To sum up, the situation is <\/span>bad<\/span> and we need to act quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are things we can’t control as individuals, <\/span>like factory pollution<\/span>, but we can start with little steps like reusing and recycling.<\/span><\/p>\n

These are the 5 Rs of zero waste management:<\/span><\/p>\n

REFUSE what you don\u2019t need<\/span>
\nREDUCE what you use<\/span>
\nREUSE what you already have<\/span>
\nRECYCLE what you can<\/span>
\nROT, let the rest rot – make a compost<\/span><\/p>\n

In an ideal world, these steps would be <\/span>performed to their full efficiency.<\/span> Although we understand that not everybody is in the position to make a compost<\/span>, <\/span>we still believe that the other steps can be followed by most us. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the future, <\/span>we will discuss in more detail about how to follow these steps to their full advantage, but today let\u2019s stick with the basics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clothes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s not only environmentally friendly to repair torn clothing rather than buying something new, it also makes sense from a personal standpoint. If your favourite pair of jeans has a rip, you could buy a new pair, but you could also make a new pair of shorts, or a fashionable new bag… your options are endless – it\u2019s only a Google search away! <\/span><\/p>\n
